Emily Dickinson (Explicator)

Emily Dickinson is one of the most famous woman poets in history. However, her works are very dissimilar to other poetry that was published during her time. Her poetry requires intense concentration, imagination, and usually high tolerance for ambiguity. Through her works, Dickinson explored the inner life of the individual, and painted the “landscape of the soul”. Some of her favorites were the Bible, Milton, Shakespeare, Sir Thomas Brown, and Dickens. Dikcckson’s style was that of her own. She oftentimes odd inversions, such as the use of adverbs with verbs, adjectives with verbs as nouns, and omission of auxiliary adverbs. She often constructed her works according to Latin rules. It is safe to say that Dickinson was one of a kind. However, there are many people today who compare to her famous works. One comparison was between her and Jimmy Hendrix.
